Ramblewood Fire

Ramblewood Fire
At 1:33 pm today the Canteen was activated for a structure fire on Ramblewood Drive. With the heat index in triple digits it was a brutal day to be out there. Of course we had plenty of ice cold water, cooling chairs and cold towels to get our firefighters through the day. We were just about running out of ice when we broke down around 5pm. Thanks ...

Hazmat and Fire Activations

Hazmat and Fire Activations

Our team was busy on Tuesday July 26th. At 11:55am the Canteen was activated for a commercial gas leak at the Walmart shopping center on Coral Ridge Drive North of the Sawgrass Expressway. We had a few members respond to provide hydration. The leak was capped fairly quickly. At 2:54pm the same day the Canteen was activated for mutual aid at a residential structure fire in Margate. The Canteen and several team members responded to this call. We assisted Margate CERT in providing hydration and rehab. According to news sources the fire started in the garage with a model airplane and was fed by extra jet fuel stored nearby in the garage. You can view some photos in our Photo Gallery or see a video here. We understand the Margate Fire Chief sent our Chief a note of thanks mentioning how professional and efficient our team was. Thanks to all the CERT members that responded to these two back to back activations.

Missing Person Activation

At 12:21pm on May 23rd 2016 the team was activated to search for an elderly male with dementia. Team members met at the staging area setup at the Shell station at Sample and Riverside. Several search teams of two were put together and sent out to search specific areas of the city as given by Police and Fire command. The Margate CERT team was called for mutual aid as there was suspicion he had walked South into Margate. A few hours later he was found in the South part of the City off of Coral Springs Drive and returned home safely. Thanks to all the members that came out to do the search.
