We are very sad to share that our past Program Chief Mike DiTocco passed away. Mike was a staple of Coral Springs Parkland CERT for over two decades. Mike was instrumental in building Coral Springs Parkland CERT to the successful program it is today.
A message from Coral Springs City Manager and Former Fire Chief Frank Babinec.
I am deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of Michael "Mike" DiTocco, who served as the City of Coral Springs CERT Commander and a dedicated volunteer for more than 21 years. Mike's selflessness and commitment to our community had a tremendous impact on so many of us.
Mike tirelessly responded to critical incidents, regardless of if it were day or night, providing support and care to those in need. He was instrumental in leading CERT during SWAT activations, fires, the search for missing persons and in the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy. His dedication shone brightly during hurricanes as he stood by our residents before, during, and after a storm. For his incredible contributions, Mike was recognized with the State of Florida CERT Association Distinguished Service Award in 2019.
Although Mike had a busy career in I.T., he still found the time to obtain certifications to instruct critical lifesaving training, such as CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed, imparting his knowledge to others.
Mike's legacy will remain one of compassion and community spirit. I know we will miss him deeply, but we can take comfort in knowing that his contributions have made the cities of Coral Springs and Parkland stronger, more united communities. The Celebration of Life will be held on August 25, 2024 from 2PM-4PM at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, 9521 Westview Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33067. Active CERT members are requested to wear your CERT shirt.
